Tiles are not just building material, it can be said, an instrument of art. Almost no architectural creation was there without tiles, the interiors of palaces and parks, temples and cathedrals are decorated with beautiful mosaics.
Tiles as an object of decor, covered with glaze, painted, polished to shine or, on the contrary, rough in appearance, like a clay vessel, was used to create fantasy patterns or plot images in the interior and exterior.
The tile received its heyday in the art of Muslim countries. Perhaps the reason for this was partly a ban on the image of God and His creations, which became a kind of impetus for the development of abstract thinking and, therefore, more abstract art, innovative and symbolic art.
As Islam spread, Spain, and then Italy inherited from Muslims the technique of manufacturing ceramic tiles, some artistic images and ornaments, preserving Islamic traditions to the present day. It is for the harmony of traditional recipe and modern materials, as well as the combinations of the Eastern and European color, Italian and Spanish ceramic floor tiles are so appreciated by buyers of the whole world.
Ceramic tiles covered with glaze on the front side are called a tile or tile. Such tiles are used for cladding furnaces (tiled furnace), fireplaces, introducing bright, juicy colors, creating patterns and drawings into the floor or wall covering.
A funny representative of this species is the Kabanchik tile. In shape, it resembles a brick, laid down, due to a convex surface was widely used to decorate the facades of buildings. At the beginning of the century, it was a running product: the Modern style demanded economical and practical materials. The apartment building in the Bolshoi Sukharevsky architect Danilov is an embodied laudatory song of the strength and durability of the “wild boar”: built in the 1900s, it still looks like new, and the integrity and aesthetics of the tile causes experts genuine surprise and enthusiasm.
Matte tiles, for example, terracotta are no less popular (the word itself is literally translated from Italian as “burned land”). Muffled, natural colors of terracotta are used for the special effect of the “old house”, where calm and simplicity reigns. A huge plus of this type of tile – it is impossible to slip on it. Matte tiles are suitable for both bathrooms and living rooms, it looks great in landscape design.
Decorative tiles can have a relief surface, which visually expand the space and add juicy and, at the same time, elegant accent. Such a “highlight” will emphasize the original and exquisite style of the interior.
