We make a cellar basement in the garage
The construction of the cellar in the garage is almost similar to the construction of the observation pit for the car. The most important and significant difference is the need for the proper insulation of the upper wall of the garage (ceiling). Basement ventilation should be unrelated to garage ventilation. This is a prerequisite, because the difference in the temperature of the cellar and garage will lead to dampness and condensate. Moreover, it is possible that in the garage there is periodically a fed car and exhaust gases can fall into the basement. Even using a fan for drying will not save from dampness.
Before warming the cellar in the garage, you need to understand one important thing. Simple insulation will not solve all problems, or may even aggravate existing. Therefore, the issue of insulation should be treated comprehensively. It is necessary to know the basic laws so that the cellar is dry and cold within certain limits and holds a constant temperature. These are just optimal product safety conditions.
Remember:
It is necessary to qualitatively waterproof the room – with the right approach to this stage of construction, you will get rid of the problem of humidity;
It is also required to warm the basement of the garage – it will allow not to overheat the room and keep the cold well;
Ventilation of the cellar in the garage – fresh air will save your reserves from dampness, and moisture will be removed from the cellar. Ventilation can be carried out in various combined methods.
Waterproofing of the garage basement
We recommend listening to the tips presented below even at the stage of building a garage. With a high level of groundwater, it is necessary, without fail, to organize a drainage system in a circle. Outside, the foundation is plastered and protected by roofing facilities, it is better even in two layers, or use special membranes. Inside the wall is treated with a solution based on cement and additionally covered with bitumen mastic. If finances allow, you can use penetrating waterproofing. Ideally, the walls of the cellar can be finished with slate covered with bitumen lubricant.
How to insulate the basement in the garage?
This is the most important and exciting question. When warming walls in the cellar, polystyrene foam (in everyday life is polystyrene). It is attached to the outside of the room, during the insulation of the foundation. The polystyrene foam has low watering, it will last a very long time and will not rot. Use foam with 25 density and thickness – 50mm. This is the best option that will maintain a constant temperature in the basement.
Some are insulated with polystyrene foam from the inside. But this is not entirely correct, since the wall will still be cooled outside. As a result, at the junction of the wall and polystyrene, condensation will may form, which will lead to increased humidity. As a conclusion, we emphasize once again that insulation with polystyrene is the most common option, but not the only.
